Answer

Mix 1 unit of regular human insulin per 1 ml of 0.9% normal saline and start IV infusion via pump as follows:

  • Blood glucose level 110-150 mg/dL

    • Intravenous regular insulin syringe bolus - 0 U/h

    • Noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or no diabetes mellitus – None

    • Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus – None
