A dedicated contrast-enhanced CT scan may be required in addition to the PET/CT to define the extent of disease in special situations, such as in the setting of lymphadenopathy close to bowel or if there is compression or thrombosis of blood vessels. Additional tests may be helpful in the evaluation of specific disease sites.
