TTP is a rare but serious disorder that was initially described as having a pentad of manifestations, as follows:

  1. Thrombocytopenia (with purpura)
  2. Red blood cell fragmentation
  3. Kidney failure
  4. Neurologic dysfunction
  5. Fever
