Answer

In a study of 69 DIC patients (31 with multiorgan failure), higher levels of tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) antigen and PAI-1 with depressed levels of α2 -antiplasmin were observed in patients with DIC and multiorgan failure than in DIC patients without multiorgan failure. [33] This finding supports the conclusion that fibrinolysis is a mechanism vital to the prevention of multiorgan failure.
