Answer

In patients with small AAAs, attempts should be made to reduce the expansion rate and rupture risk. Smoking cessation is of paramount importance. Hypertension should be aggressively controlled. Beta-blocker therapy should be instituted to lower blood pressure and reduce stress on the artery wall. These agents can be administered safely unless the patient has a contraindication to their use (eg, COPD, allergy to the drug, bradycardia, or severe chronic heart failure).
