Preoperative laboratory evaluation should include the following:

  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Complete chemistry panel
  • Liver function tests
  • Thyroid function tests
  • Lipid profile
  • Coagulation tests
  • Serum iron and total iron binding capacity (TIBC)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Folic acid
  • Blood typing
  • Urinalysis
