Answer

Given the central role that UVR plays in the pathogenesis of cSCC, methods aimed at decreasing UVR exposure form the cornerstone of cSCC prevention. The evidence behind other measures to prevent cSCC is lacking; eg, large, well-controlled studies have failed to show a beneficial role for dietary supplements, including selenium, beta-carotene, retinol, and isotretinoin, in the prevention of skin cancers.
