Answer

Answer

Any patient who has documented OSA and is a potential candidate for OSA surgery should be considered for DISE via propofol. [9] This dynamic exam will study the patient’s real-time OSA under light sedation, complementing the complete head-and-neck exam and (utilizing the Müller maneuver) awake endoscopy.

The ideal patient should have:

  • Documented OSA

  • An airway deemed manageable by the anesthesiologist and the operating surgeon

  • A patent nasal airway and nasopharynx, to allow the fiberoptic scope to pass unimpeded
