Similarly, a 2015 review by the American College of Physicians (ACP) recommends the following strategies as the least intensive and having the highest value for asymptomatic women at average risk and in good health [102] :

  • Women 40-49 years of age: Discuss benefits and harms; if the patient requests screening, order biennial mammography

  • Women 50-74 years of age: Encourage mammography every 2 years

For women of any age, the ACP does not recommend the following low-value screening strategies [102] :

  • Annual mammography

  • MRI

  • Tomosynthesis

  • Regular systematic breast examination
