The abnormalities of the posterior segment can be divided into 6 categories, as follows [4, 5, 6, 7] :

  • Optic disc changes

  • Posterior retinal and macular vascular occlusion

  • Chronic macular changes (sickling maculopathy)

  • Choroidal vascular occlusions

  • Nonproliferative retinal changes

  • Proliferative retinal changes
