Nonmodifiable risk factors include the following (although there are likely many others):

  • Age

  • Race

  • Sex

  • Ethnicity

  • History of migraine headaches [20]

  • Fibromuscular dysplasia

  • Heredity: Family history of stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs)
