The risk of hemorrhagic stroke is increased with the following factors:

  • Advanced age

  • Hypertension (up to 60% of cases)

  • Previous history of stroke

  • Alcohol abuse

  • Use of illicit drugs (eg, cocaine, other sympathomimetic drugs)
