Answer

Indefinite therapy is recommended for patients with recurrent episodes of venous thrombosis regardless of the cause. The risk of recurrent thromboembolism during a 4-year follow-up period was reduced from 21% to 3% with continued anticoagulation. However, the incidence of major bleeding increased from 3% to 9%.
