Answer

To date, relatively few clinical trials have been performed to evaluate the effectiveness of specialized support surfaces. Those that have been published have mostly been based on evaluation of tissue interface pressure, which is the force per unit area that acts perpendicularly between the body and the support surface and serves as an approximation of capillary closing pressure.
