Answer

The aims of premedication are to minimize myocardial oxygen demands by reducing the heart rate and systemic arterial pressure and to improve myocardial blood flow with vasodilators.

The 2017 European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) guidelines on perioperative medication in adult cardiac surgery [68] can be found at https://academic.oup.com/ejcts/article-lookup/doi/10.1093/ejcts/ezx314.
