Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) is a frequent cause of hospital admission and is a factor in hospital morbidity and mortality. LGIB is distinct from upper GI bleeding (UGIB) in epidemiology, management, and prognosis. The image below illustrates the different types of LGIB.
