Also consider the following conditions in patients with suspected acalculous cholecystitis:

  • Sepsis with biliary tract infection

  • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cholangiopathy

  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)-associated liver disease
