What are the subtypes of primary constipation?

Primary (idiopathic, functional) constipation can generally be subdivided into the following three types:

  • Normal-transit constipation (NTC)

  • Slow-transit constipation (STC)

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction (ie, pelvic floor dyssynergia)
