Answer

Loss of HBsAg indicates resolution of the HBV infection, acute or chronic, but it is rare in chronic infection. A study by Tseng et al that followed Taiwanese patients with chronic hepatitis B infection who developed spontaneous HBeAg loss (seroconversion) showed that patients with low levels of HBsAg 1 year after their HBeAg seroconversion had a higher probability of loss of HBsAg.
