Complications of acute gastritis include the following:

  • Bleeding from an erosion or ulcer

  • Gastric outlet obstruction due to edema limiting an adequate transfer of food from the stomach to the small intestine

  • Dehydration from vomiting

  • Renal insufficiency as a result of dehydration
