Approximately 30% of Crohn disease cases involve the small bowel, particularly the terminal ileum, another 20% involve only the colon, and 45% involve both the small bowel and colon. [8] Once considered rare in the pediatric and black populations, Crohn disease is recognized with increasing frequency in children of all ages and in individuals of varying ethnicities.
