Other causes of acalculous cholecystitis include the following:

  • Cardiac events, including myocardial infarction

  • Sickle cell disease

  • Salmonella infections

  • Diabetes mellitus [6]

  • Patients with AIDS who have cytomegalovirus, cryptosporidiosis, or microsporidiosis
