Diagnostic imaging modalities that may be considered include the following:

  • Plain X-ray of the abdomen

  • Ultrasonography

  • Computed tomography (CT)

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

  • Hepatobiliary scintigraphy (see the image below)

    Cholecystitis. Abnormal finding on hepatoiminodiac Cholecystitis. Abnormal finding on hepatoiminodiacetic acid (HIDA) scan.
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
