Corticosteroids have anti-inflammatory properties and cause profound and varied metabolic effects. These agents modify the body's immune response to diverse stimuli.

Prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone, Sterapred)

Can be used in patients with refractory celiac disease. Might decrease inflammation by reversing increased capillary permeability and suppressing PMN activity. The usual starting dose of its metabolite prednisolone is 40 mg to 60 mg daily.
