The Surviving Sepsis Campaign recommends obtaining at least 2 blood cultures before antibiotics are administered, with 1 percutaneously drawn and the other(s) obtained through each vascular access (unless the device was inserted 11</ref> [60] Again, however, it must be remembered that blood cultures are positive in fewer than 50% of cases of sepsis.
