Chronic alcoholism is associated with depression as well as anxiety disorder, and the risk of suicide among individuals with alcohol addiction is high. Therefore, persons with alcohol withdrawal should be screened for depression and anxiety disorder after recovery from the alcohol withdrawal state, and they referred to a mental health provider for further assessment and treatment as necessary.
