The following conditions may also cause acute pericarditis:

  • Sjögren syndrome

  • Mixed connective-tissue disease

  • Reiter syndrome

  • Ankylosing spondylitis

  • Inflammatory bowel disease

  • Wegener granulomatosis

  • Vasculitis (eg, giant cell arteritis, polyarteritis)

  • Polymyositis

  • Behçet syndrome

  • Whipple disease

  • Familial Mediterranean fever

  • Serum sickness
