The CHA2DS2-VASc score has been shown to perform well at predicting whether a patient is at high or low risk for thromboembolism. [20] This score includes the following risk factors:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Hypertension
  • Age 65-74 years
  • Diabetes
  • Previous stroke
  • Vascular disease
  • Female sex
