  • To evaluate for valvular heart disease

  • To evaluate atrial and ventricular chamber and wall dimensions

  • To estimate ventricular function and evaluate for ventricular thrombi

  • To estimate pulmonary systolic pressure (pulmonary hypertension)

  • To evaluate for pericardial disease
