Answer

Answer

Worldwide, preeclampsia and eclampsia are estimated to be responsible for approximately 14% of maternal deaths per year (50,000-75,000). [21] Morbidity and mortality in preeclampsia and eclampsia are related to the following conditions:

  • Systemic endothelial dysfunction

  • Vasospasm and small-vessel thrombosis leading to tissue and organ ischemia

  • Central nervous system (CNS) events, such as seizures, strokes, and hemorrhage

  • Acute tubular necrosis

  • Coagulopathies

  • Placental abruption in the mother
