Answer

Patients can experience discomfort immediately after the procedure; this normally settles with simple analgesia. The patient may also experience delayed pain as a part of postablation syndrome.

Postablation syndrome is a common phenomenon after RFA of solid abdominal tumors, [48] occurring in approximately one third of patients. The symptoms of postablation syndrome are flulike and include the following:

  • Low-grade fever
  • Delayed pain
  • Malaise
  • Myalgia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Patients should be informed about postablation syndrome and its self-limiting nature before the procedure. Most patients should be able to resume normal activity in 7-10 days.
