Answer

After donation, each unit of donated blood undergoes a series of tests for the following:

  • HBV and HCV

  • HIV-1 and HIV-2

  • HTLV-1 and HTLV-2

  • Syphilis

  • T cruzi

Note: Apheresis platelets are also tested for bacterial contamination.
