In children and young adults, the following conditions can also have symptoms similar to those of asthma:

  • Vocal cord dysfunction

  • Cystic fibrosis

  • Congenital cardiac anomalies

  • Pulmonary anomalies

  • Pertussis

  • Primary ciliary dyskinesia

  • Tracheomalacia/bronchomalacia

  • Habit-cough syndrome

  • Hyperventilation

  • Exercise-induced supraventricular tachycardia

  • Exercise-induced laryngomalacia

  • Viral infections
