G6PD deficiency is prevalent worldwide. In the United States, African Americans are primarily affected, with a prevalence of about 10%; however it is also seen among Italians (especially those of Sardinian ancestry), Greeks, Turkish people, Southeast Asians, people of Asian ancestry, and Sephardic Jews.
