Answer

Thyroid dysfunction is observed usually as a late complication after bone marrow transplantation. In an interesting 2001 study by Kami, transient thyrotoxicosis was observed in 7 of 52 patients at a median time of 111 days. Six months after bone marrow transplantation, 24 patients had developed euthyroid sick syndrome. After 1 year, 8 patients were diagnosed with hypothyroidism and 9 patients were diagnosed with euthyroid sick syndrome. [25]
