  • Infection

  • Trauma

  • Inflammation

  • Spinal cord disorders

  • Vasculitis

  • Entrapment

  • Altered immune mechanisms

  • Toxins

  • Physical agents, such as electrical or radiation injury

  • Genetic and enzyme defects
