Symptoms of cauda equina syndrome include the following:

  • Low back pain

  • Unilateral or bilateral sciatica

  • Saddle and perineal hypoesthesia or anesthesia

  • Bowel and bladder disturbances

  • Lower extremity motor weakness and sensory deficits

  • Reduced or absent lower extremity reflexes
