Answer

If an MS patient is being switched from natalizumab to fingolimod oral therapy, a washout period of 8 weeks or less is advisable. In an observational cohort study involving 350 such patients, those with a washout time longer than 2 months had a higher risk of relapse; in a second study involving 142 patients, shorter washout periods of 8 or 12 weeks were associated with fewer active lesions and less disease recurrence than was a washout period of 16 weeks.
