Dumitru and Dreyfuss applied strict criteria to define a group of 20 patients with a unilateral/unilevel L5/S1 radiculopathy, concluding that the clinical utility of both segmental and dermatomal SEPs is dubious in patients with known unilateral/unilevel L5 and S1 nerve root compromise. [55]

Castello et al studied the effects of lumbar nerve root decompression on SEP and demonstrated a significant improvement in postoperative SEP latency in patients with lateral recess stenosis. [56]
