Answer

Rapid-onset hydrocephalus with increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is an emergency. The following can be done, depending on each specific case:

  • Ventricular tap in infants

  • Open ventricular drainage in children and adults

  • LP in posthemorrhagic and postmeningitic hydrocephalus

  • VP or VA shunt
