Worldwide, 170 million persons have hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, which represents 3% of the world population. [30] The prevalence of HCV antibody is less than 3% in developed nations. The prevalences are as high as 70% in highly endemic countries, such as Egypt; the high prevalences relate to specific practices that transmit the disease at specific times in the population.
