The use of oral or epidural corticosteroids in conjunction with antiviral therapy has been found to be beneficial in treating moderate-to-severe acute zoster but to have no effect on the development or duration of PHN. [86, 98, 88] Intrathecal administration of corticosteroids has also been attempted [116] but is not currently recommended.

Combination therapies have shown promise for relieving PHN, but clinical evidence to support such approaches is limited. [117]
