Eczema herpeticum is an acute HSV infection that occurs in patients with chronic severe atopic dermatitis. It is characterized by erythematous vesicles, erosions, and crusting that occur in areas affected by atopic dermatitis. [52] Dissemination can occur and may be associated with fever, pain, and lymphadenopathy. [52] Prompt initiation of systemic antivirals is indicated.
