A systematic review (based on five small studies) evaluating intra-articular lidocaine against IV analgesia with or without sedation using benzodiazepines and opiates reported that intra-articular lidocaine may provide comparable rates of successful anterior shoulder reduction with a lower rate of adverse events but no difference in patient pain scores.
