CK expression in pilonidal sinus is comparable with that in hidradenitis suppurativa, as previously reported. Moreover, in infundibularlike epithelium, CK17 is also absent. [81]

The overlying epidermis in hidradenitis suppurativa lesions has a more undifferentiated hyperproliferative state than that found in healthy epidermis. [80] In some cases, CK19 is present in the basal layer of the epidermis, and CK19 is thought to be associated with premalignant change. [82]
