Answer

Chemical irritants (eg, deodorants) and mechanical irritation (eg, depilation, shaving) have been considered risk factors. However, in one study, no significant difference was found in patients who were exposed to these factors compared with age-matched control subjects. [52] Factors associated with disease activity, such as heat, sweating, stress, and menstruation in females, are the most commonly cited factors that exacerbate the disease. In one study, 32% of responders observed a deterioration in their disease during the summer. [4]
