Symptoms of common underlying urologic problems should be looked for, such as the following:

  • Overactive bladder or dysfunctional voiding (daytime urgency, frequency, incontinence, holding of urine)
  • Cystitis and urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Constipation
  • Neurogenic bladder
  • Sleep-disordered breathing
  • Urethral obstruction
  • Major motor seizure
  • Ectopic ureter
  • Diabetes mellitus or diabetes insipidus
