Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. State the initial screening question about heavy drinking days and next step for patients who screen positive for heavy drinking days and those diagnosed with alcohol use disorder.
  2. Differentiate between low-risk drinking and at-risk drinking for men and women and between at-risk drinking and alcohol use disorders.
  3. State at least 2 key components of recommended clinical care for at-risk drinkers who are ready to change.
  4. Develop an effective strategy for treating alcohol dependence in an outpatient setting.
