Target Audience

This activity is intended for urologists, endocrinologists, primary care providers, nurses, and pharmacists.

Goal

The goal of this activity is to review the main clinical features of late-onset male hypogonadism and to provide clinicians with guidance in diagnosing and treating patients with the condition.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the pathophysiology of late-onset hypogonadism.
  2. Review the clinical manifestations of hypogonadism, including common comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and the metabolic syndrome.
  3. Review the clinical diagnosis of hypogonadism by means of patient history, questionnaires, and appropriate laboratory testing.
  4. Describe the treatment of late-onset hypogonadism, including the various types of testosterone-replacement therapy and safety issues.

Credits Available

Physicians - maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for physicians;
Nurses - 1.0 nursing contact hours (0.5 contact hours are in the area of pharmacology);
Pharmacists - 1.0 ACPE continuing education credits for pharmacists (0.1 CEUs)

All other healthcare professionals completing continuing education credit for this activity will be issued a certificate of participation.
