Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: - Describe the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD)
- Identify the proportion of parents who recognize patterns of
developmental disruption in children who subsequently develop ASD
- Recognize types of impairment in infants that may predict a later diagnosis of ASD
- Describe the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics for autism-specific screening in children
- List the recommendations for early intervention that are likely to improve the prognosis of ASD
